Cat and Dog Vaccinations and Pet Exams in Ferndale, WA

Wouldn’t it be nice if pets could live as long as the average human does? Unfortunately, that’s not possible, but what IS possible is helping them live happy healthy lives. Whatcom Veterinary Hospital wants to help make this happen for your canine or feline friend. We want your pet to be around to chase Frisbees or watch birds, just as much as you do. That’s why we advocate preventive care in the form of comprehensive wellness exams and vaccinations. We consider the unique needs of every pet that walks through our doors and tailor our services accordingly. Our ultimate goal is to help pets down the road to wellness through every life stage. About the
Pet Exam

A standard cat and dog wellness visit at our Ferndale pet hospital consists of a nose-to-tail examination. We recommend a comprehensive wellness exam at least once a year for pets under age seven and twice a year for senior pets (7 and up). These visits allow our doctors to determine if any abnormalities are in need of immediate treatment. It also allows for disease prevention (parasite preventives, etc.). If necessary, we can schedule a second appointment for a more comprehensive exam, such as a dental exam under anesthesia, or advanced diagnostics, such as blood work or X-rays.

During the wellness visit, we can also discuss your pet’s dietary needs and provide recommendations for food modifications if necessary. We carry prescription diets in-house that are designed for pets with specific health conditions, including obesity.

Cat and Dog Vaccinations

In addition to the physical examination portion of the wellness visit, we typically update any necessary vaccinations, which provide protection against potentially fatal diseases and viruses, including:

  • Rabies
  • Distemper
  • Parvovirus
  • Bordetella
  • Feline panleukopenia
  • Feline leukemia
  • Calicivirus
